WHAT WE DO

The Security Department provides the required Department of Defense programs, policies, and procedures that protect and safeguard military, civilian, volunteers, and contract employees against threats such as criminal activity, insider threat, and terrorism.

USU ACCESS

VISITOR ACCESS

USU hours of operation are from 6:00 AM through 7:00 PM (Mon- Fri).

All non-DoD credentialed visitors must follow Naval Support Activity Bethesda access control procedures in order to access USU. All non-DoD visitors must coordinate with a USU sponsor at least 72 hours in advance in order to receive base access. Otherwise, the non-DoD visitor must visit the Installation Pass & ID office (Building 102) in order to receive same day access.

VISITOR PARKING

All visitors must coordinate parking with his/her USU sponsor prior to the visitation date. USU sponsors are responsible for coordinating visitor parking on the USU automated parking workflow system at least 24 hours in advance. Next day parking request must be submitted no later than 2:00 PM the day before the visit.

NEW EMPLOYEES

All new USU Staff, Faculty, Students, and Contractors must visit the USU Security office upon arrival for in-processing procedures.

COMMON ACCESS CARD

All civilian, military and contract employees located at USU, who do not hold a current National Agency Check (T1) or higher investigation must complete the appropriate security investigation. Personnel who completed a security investigation previously through other commands will need to contact USU Security to verify completion, if the investigation was properly adjudicated or if the proper investigation was submitted on the appropriate forms. Questionnaire for National Security Positions Standard Form (SF86) or Public Trust Investigation (SF85) will be required for Common Access Card issuance.

CRITERIA USU SECURITY CLEARANCE

All USU staff, faculty and students are required to have a completed background investigation appropriate for their duty position. USU personnel who need an initial investigation, periodic reinvestigation, upgrade, security clearance or are unsure of their investigation status, contact the Security office at (301) 295-3033.

Completion process for a security clearance is approximately 6 months to a year, depending on individual factors.

Access to USU network systems shall be granted only to persons who possess the appropriate access authorization and a need‑to‑know. As custodian and user of USU System information, you are responsible for the protection and control of this information.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION

In case of an emergency, when an alarm sounds, all building occupants should proceed to their designated evacuation sites in a safe and orderly manner.
