Biography

Dr. James (Jamie) Mancuso retired after 31 years of active duty service as an Army Colonel in 2023 and has served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) since 2019. Originally from Boston's North Shore, Dr. Mancuso completed medical school and a doctorate of public health at USU, residency in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, and a Master of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Dr. Mancuso has had a wide breadth of public health leadership and experience, including at the local, national, and international levels. He served as Chief Consultant to the Army Surgeon General for Preventive Medicine and on the Board of Regents for the American College of Preventive Medicine. He has more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, is board certified in both Preventive Medicine and Occupational Medicine, holds a Certificate of Knowledge in Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and is a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine. His diverse research interests include tuberculosis, HIV, and other communicable and emerging infectious diseases in military and civilian populations.
