Biography

Kimberly Burke’s passion to work towards improving population health was ignited by her undergraduate fellowship microbiology laboratory experience. Ms. Burke pursued a minor in public policy along with a major in biology to grasp an understanding of how to apply policy to effect change in the delivery of health care. Ms. Burke completed graduate studies at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, earning an MSPH in Health Policy and Management. She went on to pursue a career in Program Management overseeing the Infectious Disease program and grant portfolio at the largest Federally Qualified Health Center in the District of Columbia. Ms. Burke championed to improve access to quality health care for the District’s most vulnerable residents. One of her greatest accomplishments was leading negotiations for the organization’s acquisition of a FibroScan machine enabling Infectious Disease providers to stage liver disease for persons living with hepatitis, resulting in the expedited treatment of hepatitis C virus. As the Program Manager for Defense Health Horizons, Ms. Burke continues to utilize her skills and aspiration to mitigate obstacles that serve as barriers to the access of health care and to support the enhancement of the delivery of care to our nation’s war fighters and their families.
